Dow: Gaffer is positive and Pars stars behind him

- BY GREG THOMAS

RYAN DOW insists under-fire boss Peter Grant has remained positive and right behind his players throughout Dunfermline’s disastrous start to the season.

But he admits they desperately need a win against Hamilton today to turn words into actions.

Grant has been under mounting pressure from angry supporters but staved off calls for him to be sacked with last weekend’s goalless draw against leaders Inverness.

But the Fifers are still bottom of the Championship with no wins in their opening five games.

And, knowing a victory will lift them over fellow strugglers Accies,

Dow accepts Dunfermline need to prove Grant’s upbeat mood is not misplaced.

He said: “I don’t think either club would have imagined they would be in this position.

“I know it’s still early but, even five games in, you don’t want to be at the bottom of the league.

“Both clubs will be desperate to kickstart their season and it is a massive game for both. What you can see with the manager is his desperation to get that first win. That echoes everyone at the club.

“The longer that wait goes on, the more it eats away. But he’s always positive and I think that mentality comes from the fact he knows the group we have.”

“Accies boss Stuart Taylor insists only hard work will see his side bounce back from worrying defeats to Ayr and Arbroath.

He said: “There’s no point in feeling sorry for ourselves, because there’s no place for that in football.

“We need to keep trying to improve all the time, learn our lessons and we’ll try our hardest to win this game.”
