BEAUTY IS THE BEAST
Graham: We’ll keep Fir Park wild
GRAHAM ALEXANDER has urged his Motherwell side to keep feeding the beast and turn Fir Park into a lion’s den.
The Steelmen have roared into fourth place in the Premiership on the back of five matches unbeaten culminating in last week’s 1-1 draw with Rangers.
That ended a 21-game winning league sequence at Ibrox by Steven Gerrard’s side and Alexander can sense something special is brewing in Lanarkshire.
But he warned last week’s heroics are gone and with three points up for grabs at home to Ross County today it’s all about what happens next.
Alexander wants his side to become winners every day in their bid to keep tabs with the top end of the table.
He said: “We feel confident, are playing well and picking up points. We have a brilliant backing here at Fir Park and we have to keep feeding that beast and let it get bigger.
“The players are in a good place but what we have done previous is not going to win us the points. Every point we win is vital for us and this is no different.
“I know there’s a difference in stature and history to last week but I want us to understand that every game is a tough challenge if we don’t approach it right.
“We approached last week in the right way and we give ourselves the best chance of winning when we are focused.
“We need to have a mentality of trying to win every single day. Not just match days. It has to be a daily habit and the first thing you think of is how do I win?
We need to have the mentality of trying to win every match GRAHAM ALEXANDER ON GROWING CONFIDENCE
“We believe we have a group of players who are beginning to understand that.”
County boss Malky Mackay is no stranger to Alexander after the former Scotland team mates enjoyed a trip to Spain as guests of David Moyes while he was Real Sociedad boss six years ago.
Alexander said: “We had about three or four days watching training, games, going for meals. We were both out of work at the time and it was a brilliant trip.
“I got to know Malky better and we’ve kept in touch. It’s great to see him back managing. He knows the game, knows how to coach and manage and that adds to the quality we’ll face.”
