Slip-ups not on despite the setbacks

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

ANGE POSTECOGLOU admits injury-ravaged Celtic already have no margin of error in the fight for the Premiership title.

The Hoops boss is battling a brutal injury list with new recruit Giorgos Giakoumakis getting crocked before he’s kicked a ball and joining Callum McGregor, Kyogo Furuhashi, James Forrest, Greg Taylor and Christopher Jullien on the missing list.

Wide man Mikey Johnston also suffered a setback ahead of the clash with Dundee United tomorrow after picked up a knock in training on his comeback from a hamstring problem.

Postecoglou has been cursing his luck as he sweats on the results of Giakoumakis’ scan but he insisted Celts cannot afford any more slip-ups in the league regardless of the bodies out.

The Hoops have picked up just nine points from 18 this season following last weekend’s loss at Livingston but sit just four points behind Rangers.

Postecoglou said: “We have little or no scope for dropping points. All we have to do is try to win games of football.

“I’m not going to look into a crystal ball and say how many points we’re going to need or how many games when we can drop, when we’re still here in the very early part of the season.

“You know, people assume things along the way. And you use historical references for that. I’ve a feeling this league will be tight this year. But then again, I could be wrong.

“For us, regardless of who we’re playing, Sunday becomes an important game – particularly after losing last week.

“We know we can’t drop too many games in the league and we’ve got to get on a run of good results.

“There’s no place better than here to start, because our home form has been really good, really strong all season.

“Dundee United will be a tough challenge, they played on Thursday night as well.

“It’s good that we’re facing teams who have the same shorter preparation time, as well. “Hopefully we recover well and everyone is ready

to go.”
