I hope I’m not frozen in terror on giant boob

Lorraine Kelly on climbing London’s O2 with Corrie pal and producer in aid of breast cancer

- LIFE-SAVING... Lorraine chats about the Change + Check campaign

Television presenter Lorraine Kelly has many highlights from her 37 years on the box.

But her life-saving Change + Check campaign in support of breast cancer, which launched in 2019, is “one of the things I’m most proud of,” she said.

This Thursday the 61-year-old is going to face her fears and climb London’s O2 – dubbed Britain’s biggest boob – with Corrie star and breast cancer survivor Sally Dynevor and the campaign’s founder and Lorraine producer, Helen Addis, all in the name of raising awareness.

Here, she tells us more…

How do you feel about climbing The O2?

I’m slightly apprehensive as I’m not good with heights but I am genuinely excited to be doing something that will help raise awareness. I love that we’re turning The O2 into a giant boob. It’s a brilliant idea and all down to our Helen.

What are you most worried about?

I am not really worried, apart from getting halfway up and not being able to get to the top, because I’ll be frozen with terror due to my fear of heights. But we will be joined by some amazing women who have been through so much and we will all support each other.

How excited are you to have Corrie’s Sally climbing with you?

I adore Sally. She’s utterly inspiring and a real woman’s woman. She was doing a storyline on Corrie about her character having breast cancer, then discovered she had the disease herself. She soldiered on and has saved lives. I am in awe of her courage and determination.

What do [husband and daughter] Steve and Rosie think about you climbing The O2?

They always support me in all of the madcap things I have done over the years, from being winched from RAF helicopters to swimming in the Antarctic. We have friends who have had breast cancer and my granny died from the disease, so they know how important it is for me to do this.

Just how comfortable are you talking about breasts on live TV now?

I’ve always been comfortable talking about breasts.

How do you check your breasts?

I check them in the shower. I do it most days but also do a thorough check once every two weeks. My husband, also unselfishly, keeps an eye on them.

I check my breasts in the shower most days plus a thorough check every two weeks. My husband unselfishly keeps and eye on them too.
