Ref told us we should have had a penalty
PETER PAWLETT claims ref Kevin Clancy admitted he got it wrong after denying Dundee United a Parkhead spot-kick.
The Tangerines felt they should have had the chance to take the lead when Cameron CarterVickers barged into Nicky Clark inside the box.
Clancy looked away but soon found himself in an angry confrontation as Pawlett let rip. The United midfielder later made his apologies but claims it was Clancy who offered up sorries to Clark at full-time after confessing he should have pointed to the spot.
He said: ”I thought we were hard done by and should have had a penalty.
“They could have gone down to 10 men. That’s a couple of weeks running now where we’ve had decisions go against us.
“It’s just unfortunate we didn’t get the three points.
“Did I speak to the referee? I went to him to apologise for the way I spoke to him.
“I said, ‘I shouldn’t speak to you like that but I think we should have had a penalty there’.
“He didn’t comment but I think Clarkey said he made a comment to him at the end of the game that he got it wrong. That’s disappointing but we can take the positives from the performance.’
The draw ends a rollercoaster week for United, whose celebrations following a Dundee derby win were soured by losing in the League Cup to Hibs.
Pawlett said: “We’ve slowly but surely built on performances this season. We took a lot of confidence from the second half against Hibs even though we went out the Cup.
“We sensed an opportunity here and we’re disappointed not to have come away with the three points.”
