HEARTBROKEN friends and family have paid tribute to a young dad murdered “for absolutely no reason”.

The 23-year-old, named locally as Sean McKay, was pronounced dead at the scene in Dalry, Ayrshire, after police were called on Sunday night.

A major investigation has been launched into his death, which is being treated as suspicious by cops.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the incident, the attacker or who helped Sean in his final moments.

They say the suspect is a white male who was wearing a dark jacket.

Dad-of-one Sean’s family and friends have paid tribute to him on social media.

Sister Samantha McKay said: “Heart’s absolutely broken. My little brosky.”

A pal wrote: “Genuinely can’t comprehend this news at all. Heart’s genuinely broken for his family and friends at this sad, sad time. You were one in a million Sean, that’s for sure.”

Another said: “RIP Most beautiful soul. Forever in our hearts.”

A second friend added: “Sean’s left behind a beautiful baby – all because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, horrific.”

Sharing the police appeal, a third posted: “Get this shared someone knows something. His wean not gonna see his dad again. Life is too f**ing short. RIP Sean.”

Detective Inspector Stephen McCulloch of Saltcoats CID said: “This young man would appear to have been attacked and killed for absolutely no reason other than being in the same place as the man at the same time.

“There were a number of people in the street who came to the man’s aid and called for an ambulance and we believe we have managed to speak to most of them.

“However, we would still appeal to anyone who was there but who has not yet come forward to police to get in touch.”
