Lyndon can bring out the best in Hibs hitman Kevin

-

IT’S probably not the picture he had in his mind when Kevin Nisbet dreamed about leading the line for Scotland in a World Cup qualifier.

A hillside in Torshavn is a million miles away from a rocking Hampden – but it will be every bit as special for the Hibs man.

And his inclusion tonight could also work a treat for Steve Clarke and Scotland.

I know Nisbet coming into the side is down to Che Adams picking up an injury. But I believe this could be a game that really suits him and Scotland.

Nisbet hasn’t quite recaptured his form of last season yet this year in terms of goals or assists. He’s working hard but he’s not quite firing just yet.

Christian Doidge has been a big miss for him because he’s best operating in a front two. That’s why I believe it will work tonight as Lyndon Dykes will be the perfect foil for him.

I thought big Dykes was brilliant against Israel. The least said about his penalty the better but you’ve got to hand it to him.

He put himself about and caused Israel a ton of trouble. He didn’t let his head go down after the miss and he fully deserved his goal. But Nisbet should be rubbing his hands at the prospect of playing off Dykes.

I always preferred playing as part of a front two and I was fortunate to have the likes of Craig Brewster and Mixu Paatelainen alongside me. They can take the hits. It was a case of, ‘On you go, big man!’

Dykes is in a similar mould. He doesn’t mind getting in about it and that will allow Nisbet to find pockets of space.

It will also allow Scotland to get down the flanks and get balls into the box. We saw how effective it was in the second half against Israel. Steve Clarke simply needs to stick to the plan and go the same way about it.

If you’d said to us at the start of the campaign we only had to beat the Faroes and Moldova to get to the play-offs we’d have snapped a hand off. I say only but I
