I’ve got to start winning games
Grant knows his time is running out
PETER GRANT admits he knows the clock is ticking after being told by the Dunfermline board results must improve “quickly”.
The Pars issued the embattled manager with another vote of confidence last week in the wake of the October 2 defeat at Queen of the South.
That result kept the Fife side – who are still searching for their first Championship win of the season – bottom of the table with four points from eight games.
But sporting director Thomas Meggle, part of the German consortium that own the club, made it clear Grant understands their woeful run can’t continue.
Grant, whose side host Kilmarnock this weekend, said: “I know from my own personal point of view I have to start winning games quickly.
“There has been an urgency since the day I got the job, that’s the way I am. I spoke to Thomas and the chairman [Ross McArthur] after the game and then on the Sunday and I thought it was important to get in contact with them.
“I’m proud to be the manager of this club and I want that to continue but I understand you have to win games of football to make that continue.
“I understand the disappointment of supporters, I’m never a manager that is going to try to curry favour with the fans and say this and that. I’m honest and I deserve the criticism that comes with the results, I’ve no problem with that. I don’t like it, I wish it did not happen, 100 per cent.”
Asked if any targets had been set for him, Grant added: “We want to be first. That’s the pressure and that’s why I wanted to be manager here because we’re more than capable of doing that.
“That’s why I understand everyone’s frustration. The levels haven’t been at the levels I expect from this group and that’s been disappointing because I know I have players more than capable of that.”
