THE rumour mill has Steven Gerrard in the running to lead the loadsamoney Newcastle revolution but some fans are having none of it.

Rangers supporters don’t want to entertain the prospect of losing their manager and there are even Celtic fans who want the Englishman to stay.

Paul Keenan emailed: “As a Celtic fan I want Gerrard to stay. One fluked title during a pandemic, with no fans, is hardly the stuff dreams are made of.”

Robert Brown, Glasgow, said: “If Gerrard is the man Newcastle want then it’s easy to see why he’d want to go. He’ll be given a budget which is so large it will lift his managerial career to a far higher level. He knows he can’t win anything in Europe while he’s at Ibrox but the spending power at St James’ Park will put them into the same league as PSG and Man City.”

Iain Walker, Falkirk, said: “Gerrard has been a great addition to Scottish football as he’s added some credibility but his ambitions can’t be satisfied in Glasgow. It’s only a matter of time before he heads down to England and Newcastle would make sense as money talks in football. As a Rangers fan I would be sad to see him go but he’s made us champions again so nobody could complain if he was to leave.”

Tam McBride, Pollok, said: “I have my doubts Newcastle would be willing to gamble on bringing in Gerrard to replace Steve Bruce. One trophy in a twoteam league in Scotland isn’t exactly setting the heather on fire and, if we are being honest, the title Rangers won was artificial as the season was a shambles with no fans at games. His recruitment has been hit and miss so I think he has a lot more to achieve before he’s a target for the bigger clubs.”
