Sex Pistol Cook hopes to mend relationship with Rotten after High Court clash over hits
SEX Pistol Paul Cook says he wants to patch things up with John Lydon after the bitter legal battle over their songs.
Drummer Cook, 65, and guitarist Steve Jones, 66, sued Lydon – aka Johnny Rotten – to allow their music to be used in Danny Boyle’s six-part TV series Pistol.
A High Court judge ruled they could invoke majority voting rights.
But Lydon, 65, called them greedy, claiming he was fleeced of £2million.
Cook told music journalist John Robb: “The court case was going to happen eventually. It was disappointing. I didn’t want to be sitting there in court grilled by some toff in a wig. “I don’t want to get in a slanging match. We had an agreement, majority rules kind of thing, John didn’t agree with it. “I’m old fashioned, I think if you sign something you’ve got to adhere to it. But he didn’t and we ended up there, bit of a sorry show really.” On his relationship with John, he said: “When we first started the Pistols I was the one making the effort, we were hanging out together and staying round each other’s houses and going out drinking.
“Steve had more of a fractious relationship from the off but I got on with him alright. The Pistols was such an intense situation to be in. When we split we fell out horrible, but we made an effort, he didn’t live far from me.” Cook said he thought Lydon had an issue with Steve because of his book Lonely Boy, which the Disney series is based on. “I don’t know why,” he said. “Hopefully, it’s not broke forever, our relationship. “I hope we talk again. We’re not bosom buddies and we hadn’t spoken for a long time before the case. “Hey, we’ve got to do business together and hopefully that will continue in a reasonable manner.”
