It won’t be murder on dancefloor

Glass confident Dons will have all the right moves as they go up against Strictly in TV schedules

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

STEPHEN GLASS admits it’ll be strange going up against Strictly Come Dancing tomorrow night.

But the Aberdeen boss is determined to put on a show for the huge Red Army getting ready to waltz in to Dundee.

The Pittodrie gaffer is hoping it’ll be alright on the night in tomorrow’s teatime TV clash at Dens after going eight games without a win.

Aberdeen will have more than 2500 fans behind him on Tayside and Glass wants to repay their faith by getting in to the groove against Premiership basement boys Dundee.

He said: “Maybe a lot of people might be happy there’s an alternative to Strictly!

“To me, it’s important that we go and put on a performance for a big number of people that are coming to watch us on a Saturday night.

“The amount of tickets we’ve sold is on the back of a bit of belief in what they think their team can do.

“We’ll show an energy, we’ll show an aggression and it’s important that we get back to winning ways. It’s certainly a different kick-off time.

“It’s different for Scotland. Especially recently, you’re able to go home and switch on a game from England on a Saturday night.

“It’s nothing that’s outlandish. It’s been done for a reason and it’s something that we’ll see whether it works or not. You can see with the number of tickets that we’ve sold that there’s an appetite for it.

“Playing under the lights is always good anyway and it’ll be a good occasion.”

Glass has come under pressure after a rocky run but there were some positives before the international break as they pushed Celtic all the way before losing a late sickener.

It doesn’t get any easier with Hibs, Rangers, Hearts and Motherwell up in a gruelling few weeks but the gaffer insisted the wretched spell hasn’t shattered the belief in his squad.

Glass said: “There needs to be a change in the resilience level we’ve shown when we come under pressure in a game.

“I do think it’s been individual bits and that’s why the team is showing belief.

“We’re on a poor run of games, there’s no doubt about that but it would be easy for a group of players to look dejected, to look lost.

“And I don’t think you see that when you look at our team. That shows the positivity in the group and the belief in the group.

“There’s a block of games until the next international fixtures and we’ve got three home games in there, we’ve got Dundee away where we’re taking a significant support.

“We know there’s some high level games coming up where all the teams will come out and try to win games . That will give us a chance to play as well.

“We look like a team that can score goals and if we can brush up at the back and be a bit more resilient, we’ll be fine.”

Glass will have Ryan Hedges and Marley Watkins back fit, along with youngster Calvin Ramsay, who missed out on a Scotland Under-21s debut.

He revealed Joe Lewis is back in the frame after his shock dropping and is wary Dundee are better than their league position suggests.

Glass said: “Joe has looked more like himself in training, which gives me a decision.

“We are looking forward to having Marley and Ryan part of the team again.

“It has been a while since we had them for a good run.

“James McPake is out there quite openly feeling Dundee should have more points than they’ve got. It’s important for us we look after ourselves.”

It’s important we put on a display for those watching STEPHEN GLASS ON DONS’ GAME WITH DUNDEE
