MacGREGOR HAS GROWN UP AT CALEY

- INVERNESS CT MORTON

RODDY MacGREGOR is one of the golden boys of Caley Thistle’s impressive youth academy.

This season, though, the home-grown hero is out to prove that age is just a number.

The boy has become a man and MacGregor, following in the footsteps of fellow locals such as Ryan Christie, Graeme Shinnie, Liam Polworth and Dan Mackay, won’t lean on youth as an excuse.

MacGregor, 19, has cemented first-team status under Billy Dodds, starting seven of eight Championship matches so far.

His fine form, with two goals and a handful of assists, has come hand in hand with growing maturity and confidence on the park.

MacGregor said: “It has been a really good start for us overall and I’ve played a lot of games.

“I think I have done reasonably well and hopefully I can just stay in the team and help as much as I can.

“This season I feel as if I’ve stepped it up a wee bit. I have gained more experience over the last couple of years.

“I’m trying to take on that greater responsibility now and become a figure in the team, not just a young boy. “

Gus MacPherson, meanwhile, has urged his Morton side to show more belief as they get set to take on the leaders.

Ton return to league duty after booking their place in the quarter-finals of the SPFL Trust Trophy following their penalty shoot-out win over League One Montrose.

MacPherson said: “Montrose was a really tough one last week and Inverness probably becomes an even greater challenge this weekend.

“We are coming up against a team who have had an excellent start and recruited well. So we are expecting a hard game.

“We want to continue with the performance levels but I’d like us to have that bit of belief we can carry a threat and believe we can take chances when we create them.”
