Euan stunned to see old club propping up table but is out to pile on pain DUNFERMLINE v KILLIE

-

EUAN MURRAY is surprised to see former club Dunfermline at the foot of the table – but is desperate to make sure they remain there today.

Kilmarnock’s stand-in skipper returns to East End Park today for the first time since leaving the Pars in the summer.

Many of his ex-team-mates are still at the club – and that is why the defender is perplexed as to why Peter Grant’s side remain without a win from their eight matches this term in the Championship.

A victory and making sure second-place Kilmarnock remain hot on the heels of Inverness is all that Murray is concerned about now.

He said: “It’s no different to me, it’s another three points we’re after. I’m not very emotional when it comes to these types of things, you need to be like that as a footballer.

“I had a great time, I loved it and I enjoyed every part of it but it’s business on Saturday, it’s all about Kilmarnock for me.

“I didn’t expect

Dunfermline to start the way they have, they kept a lot of players who were there last season and they’re all good players.

“It just hasn’t clicked for them for whatever reason but I expect towards the end of the season they’ll be higher up the league.

“This division can be like that, it’s unforgiving and if you have a few bad results then you can find yourself dragged to the bottom.”

Murray admits all contact with his former colleagues has been put on hold this week.

He said: “I’m good friends with quite a few, I keep in touch because I had a good time there.

“But we haven’t had any contact this week. I’m not just friends with the players but the staff too. The kit man is a top man and I’m sure I will speak to him after the game.

“They will know themselves they’re not in the position the club wants to be in.

“I’m sure once they get a few wins under their belt they will get going but hopefully that doesn’t start this weekend.”

Dunfermline boss Peter Grant, meanwhile, is relishing a run of games against the best teams in the league.

They’ll have to face the top five – in their next six games.

Grant, whose team will also take on Partick Thistle, Raith, Arbroath and Inverness, said: “I think it’s very difficult to say who the top five are in the Championship. “I understand what the table says but if someone was to say, ‘Would you expect that to be the top five?’ Probably not. “I have players that I know are more than capable of winning every game but they need to perform at their best. “I would claim we are more than just top five. I did that at the start of the season. “But we need to prove it on the football pitch.”
