BIAMOU CAN REACH MAX WITH UNITED

- BY NEIL ROBERTSON

MAX BIAMOU revealed a call from Marc McNulty helped persuade him to sign for Dundee United.

After leaving Coventry at the end of last season the 30-year-old Frenchman had offers from all over the world.

But ultimately the frontman decided to move to Scotland, swayed by a chat with his former Sky Blues strike partner.

The duo played for Coventry in 2017-18 with McNulty now on loan from Reading for the second time with United.

Biamou, who has signed a deal until the end of the season and could make his debut at Hibs today, said: “I had some offers from abroad but they weren’t right for me.

“I enjoyed my time in England so I was keen to make sure I made the right move. Marc called me a few weeks ago saying the club wants you and I would be happy to play with you again.

“That’s something that I enjoyed a few years ago. At the moment he’s injured but he will come back. I wanted to enjoy something different and a move to Scotland was best for me.

“I decided to come to Dundee United. I’m really happy at the moment so I feel like I’ve made the right decision.”

After 33 goals in 116 appearances for City, free agent Biamou was in demand this summer.

But after carefully weighing up all his options, he decided this country would be the next destination on his footballing journey.

He said: “I had some offers from Romania, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. I was over in Cluj but I didn’t enjoy it. They are a very good club and they play in the Europa Conference League and are on top of the league.

“But they had too many players. There were 37 players already in the squad and they were going to sign more so I wasn’t sure I’d play.

“Before I went there, they put a contract on the table. I didn’t sign it and when I got there they tried to change the conditions so I wasn’t happy. It was pointless continuing so I left.

“I also had offers in England but I wanted to discover something different.”

Biamou will wear the No.94 jersey for United in tribute to where he is from – Creteil on the outskirts of Paris, within the country’s 94th “department”.

He said: “When I go back to my town, everybody is proud about my career. I have done it step by step and I’m happy to show them that you just need to work hard and with motivation you can do everything in your life.

“That is why I am very proud of where I come from and I want to bring that to the young lads in my area.”
