Top woman jockey: Male rider bullied me & called me a whore
Horse racing bosses order an inquiry after accuser complains to authority
ONE of Britain’s leading female jockeys has accused a male rider of harassment and bullying.
Bryony Frost, 26, claims Robbie Dunne threatened to “hurt” her following one race.
He is also said to have called her a “f***ing whore” and “dangerous c***”.
The British Horseracing Authority is investigating.
A spokesman said: “In the interests of procedural fairness, the BHA does not comment on the details of ongoing investigations.
“This case is close to reaching its conclusion, with directions hearings scheduled for the near future.
“It is an important case and one the BHA is taking very seriously.”
Frost comes from a racing family and her dad Jimmy won the 1989 Grand National.
In 2019, she became the first female jockey to win a Grade One jumps race at the Cheltenham Festival. In September last year she made a complaint to the BHA alleging Dunne, 42, had bullied and harassed her.
Frost then detailed specific incidents in a five-page statement.
She wrote: “I didn’t want this and none of the other jockeys were like that. I would try my hardest to avoid him at all times.”
Frost alleged one incident happened in July last year at Stratford Racecourse in Warwickshire, when she finished second on a horse named Wisecracker.
Dunne, aboard Cillian’s Well, came in sixth. In her statement, Frost says he swore at her in the pull-up area before adding: “If you
ever f***ing murder [cut across] me like that again, I’ll murder you.”
Two months later the pair were riding the same horses again in another race when Dunne fell at the fourth last.
As a result of its injuries, Cillian’s Well had to be put down.
Frost claims in the weighing room Dunne said: “The next time I ride against you I promise I will put you through a wing [railings].”
“The next time we ride against each other I am going to hurt you.”
Dunne has now been interviewed by the BHA and denies the allegations.
It is understood a disciplinary tribunal will consider if he has breached the rules of racing.
Dunne and Frost declined to comment while the BHA said it is developing a code of conduct.
It added: “Racing is not immune to issues around conduct and behaviours which are prevalent in all aspects of society and other sports.”
