Luis loving being king at Queen’s

-

LIVERPOOL loanee Luis Longstaff is loving life at Queen’s Park after coming off the bench to score his first goal for the leaders.

The 20-year-old added a third for Laurie Ellis’ side three minutes after coming on as they beat Dumbarton 3-0 at the Rock.

And after six goalless games for the Spiders, Longstaff said: “It’s a great feeling. It feels like it has been a long time coming.

“The most important thing is we managed to get the three points.

“Being young, you can learn a lot from the players who’ve been at this level all their career.

“The physicality, speed and competitiveness is very different to playing in academy sides. At that level you want to win but it’s not the be-all and end-all.

“It feels good to be part of a team challenging at the top and who want to win every game.”

It took Queen’s just three second-half minutes to take the lead after Stuart Carswell tripped Louis Longridge in the box.

Sam Ramsbottom saved Grant Gillespie’s spot-kick but the Spiders man nodded in the rebound.

Bob McHugh lashed in a second and 11 minutes from time Longstaff squeezed the ball past Ramsbottom.

Gutted Sons boss Stevie Farrell said: “We edged the first half but in the second Queen’s took their chances and deserved the win.”

Lewis Milne netted a hat-trick as Montrose thumped Clyde 5-0. A Conrad Balatoni own goal and Cammy Ballantyne strike added to the rout.

Stewart Petrie said: “We’ve been creating chances, so to be able to take them and add goals to our game was really pleasing.”

Dylan Easton, Callum Smith and Josh Kerr scored as Airdrie won 3-0 at Falkirk, while bottom side East Fife shocked Cove 4-2.

The Fifers went 3-0 up through Aaron Steele, Kyle Connell and Scott Mercer.

Connell netted his second after the break, with Robbie Leitch and Morgyn Neill on target for the Balmoral men.

Peterhead beat 10-man Alloa 4-2. Despite trailing to Steven Boyd’s opener, Niah Payne’s effort and a Scott Brown penalty sandwiched Alloa keeper David Hutton’s red in the 37th minute.

Charlie Gilmour equalised but Russell McLean and Josh Mulligan scored in the second half.
