Bonnyrigg delight after 9-goal romp

TOP of the table Bonnyrigg Rose got a break from the league and fired home nine goals in the SFA South Region Challenge Cup.

Rose gaffer Robbie Horn said he was delighted with the thrashing of Arniston Rangers but admitted it was tough in the first half.

He said: “We lost a goal in the first minute and it was 1-1 at the interval but after that we scored eight more.

“We didn’t panic after losing the goal. We knew if we continued playing the way we have been we would get the chances in the second half.”

Rangers went one up when John Shearer lobbed keeper Mark Weir in the first minute but Neil Martyniuk levelled In 24 minutes.

It was one-way traffic after the interval with Lee Currie starting the rout in the 48th minute.

Then Bradley Barrett grabbed a brace with Currie, Nathan Evans (2), Kieran Hall and an own goal bringing the tally to nine

with Currie even having a spot-kick saved to prevent double figures.

Cup holders Dunipace are out, beaten 3-1 by Sauchie and the two teams will have to do it all again next week in the Scottish Cup with Sauchie having home advantage this time.

Jeanfield Swifts dumped last year’s beaten finalists Broomhill from the Lowland 2-0. A Gary Fergus header put them in front after nine minutes and seven minutes later Chris McLeish got the second.

Spartans suffered a shock when Easthouses Lily took the lead against them in only eight minutes but the scores were soon level when Cammy Russell slotted home.

In the last 20 minutes Spartans’ Kevin Waugh, Blair Henderson and Jamie Dishington made it 4-1.

East Kilbride beat Larkhall Thistle 3-0, Aiden McDonald, Lee Miller and Jack Stainrod scoring.
