WE’VE DONE OURSELVES A RIGHT TURN
Goal hero Comrie says late leveller can spark Pars to life
AARON COMRIE is convinced his dramatic late equaliser against Kilmarnock can be a turning point in Dunfermline’s miserable season.
Boss Peter Grant remains under huge pressure after a ninth league game without a victory.
The Pars boss is adamant his team is good enough to challenge for the title but they’re still rooted to the foot of the Championship.
But Comrie’s leveller in the fifth minute of injury-time is proof there is no shortage of fight in the East End Park squad.
Asked if the nature of the draw could prove to be a key moment, the full-back said: “Yes, definitely. If you lose the game 2-1, playing like that, it would have caused a bit of deflation in the camp.
“So, the goal will pick us up for the week and give us something to build on. It was the least we deserved, it was probably our best performance of the season.
“We were unfortunate to be down 2-1 and even at 1-0 we created lots of chances and were on the front foot.
“The goals we lost sum up our season so far but there was great dig from the boys. Everyone’s together and we showed that.
“We’re all behind each other, we all want to do well and want the same things. We just need that win and performances like this will set us well on our way.”
Callum Hendry scored for the third game in a row since his loan move from St Johnstone to earn Kilmarnock the lead from close range in the 68th minute.
Dom Thomas levelled things up again just six minutes later with a cross-cum-shot.
But the Rugby Park side eased in front just seconds later when Oli Shaw benefited from a ricochet to sweep into the net from a tight angle.
With time running out, it looked like Killie would head home with all three points to stay on the coat-tails of league leaders Inverness Caley Thistle.
But Comrie flashed in an equaliser that could prove pivotal for both Dunfermline’s campaign and Grant’s employment status.
Comrie added: “When it came off my foot I thought it was going eight miles over the bar!
I was surprised to see it going in, I don’t know what happened. It was a bit of a blur but I was happy to see it going in.
“Kilmarnock are the favourites for the title but they’ve come to us and we’ve held our own and then some. We just need to be clinical and take our chances because we created plenty.”
It was a third league game without a victory for Killie, who are now five points adrift of top spot and behind Raith Rovers on goals scored and boss Tommy Wright said: “There are aspects we’re disappointed with but the players showed character.”
