Malin’s 150 milestone is remarkable

- HIGHLAND

CRAIG CAMPBELL hailed Joe Malin as one of the Highland League’s greatest keepers after recording his 150th clean sheet for Brora Rangers.

The former Ross County player has achieved the feat in only 289 outings for the Cattachs since 2013.

The latest shutout came in a 4-0 triumph at Clach which continued Brora’s fine recovery in the league under new manager Campbell.

Goals from Ally Macdonald (2), Adam Mackinnon and Jordan Macrae saw the defending champions remain 13 points behind leaders Fraserburgh, but with two games in hand.

Malin’s phenomenal contribution to silverware success for the Sutherland outfit was underlined by the statistic.

Campbell said: “Joe showed me his stats a couple of weeks ago and I realised he wasn’t far away from the 150 mark.

“For him to do it in 289 appearances as well is all the more remarkable. It’s rather impressive.

“I’ve known Joe since he was at Ross County when I was playing there myself, and he was a wee bit unlucky to so often be understudy at the club.

“He always had the potential to be a top goalkeeper and Brora are just fortunate he ended up getting him as early as we did, still in his mid-20s.

“It is a credit to the club that they made a signing like that and he’s helped bring a lot of success to the club.

“To achieve 150 clean sheets at one club in the League is remarkable. He deserves all the recognition that comes with it.”

Elsewhere, Fraserburgh made it 13 wins and a draw from their opening 14 games as they smashed seven past poor Keith.

Buckie are into second after beating Huntly 2-0. Rothes sit third after a 3-0 home win over Deveronvale.
