ROMAN’S LEGION

Hearts launch strip with TV’s Succession firm as sponsor

IT’S enough to make Succession patriarch Logan Roy choke on his half-time pie... Hearts have launched a new kit with the name of the Roy family’s company emblazoned across their famous maroon shirts. The last season of the award-winning drama featured an episode where Roman Roy buys Hearts to impress his billionaire Scots dad Logan, played by Brian Cox. But the gift went down like a burst ball as Logan is a fan of Hearts’ biggest rivals, Hibs. Streaming service NOW TV teamed up with Hearts to mark the return of Succession, which began its third season last night.

In a cheeky nod to the football storyline, they unveiled limited edition shirts with Waystar Royco as sponsors.

Hearts’ manager Robbie Neilson said: “The club has been so excited to feature in one of the main storylines of one of the biggest TV shows on the planet. Just like the Roy children in Succession, we’re battling for the one place at the very top.”

The partnership between Hearts and Waystar Royco is the first time a football club has been sponsored by a fictional firm. And in keeping with the Roy family’s love of all things exclusive, only 95 shirts have been produced, with NOW’s social media and the Hearts Twitter page being the only place to find out how to get hold of one.

Hearts’ CEO Andrew McKinley said: “We love watching the Heartsrelated storylines in the show but we’re quite thankful not to have any members of the Roy family running the club in real life.”

Dundonian Cox spoke of his joy two years ago after an episode of the show centred on his character’s Scots roots and was filmed in his home city.
