Villagers in £100k bid to buy a pub

- BY ELLIE FORBES

LOCALS on the Isle of Bute are trying to raise more than £100,000 to buy a former pub on the island.

The Anchor Tavern served the local community in Port Bannatyne for two centuries but was forced to close after the economic impact of the Covid pandemic.

Islanders now want to buy the historic boozer and turn it into a community hub.

Supporters will be invited to buy shares in Port Bannatyne Development Trust, the Community Benefit Society that will own the Anchor.

The trust successfully lobbied the Scottish Land Fund for £150,000 needed to buy the pub but it now needs to raise £105,000 for its refurbishment.
