POLICE SAY WOODS GIRL AMBER WAS MURDERED

Friends pay tribute to ‘amazing lassie’

POLIcE last night said teenager Amber Gibson was murdered.

The 16-year-old’s body was found in Cadzow Glen, Hamilton, on Sunday morning.

Murder cops revealed Amber, who also used the surname Niven, left her home in the Hillhouse area of the town at around 9.15pm on Friday.

She was last seen in Cadzow Street at around 9.55pm, before her body was discovered two days later.

Detective Sergeant Raymond Brown said: “Our thoughts very much remain with Amber’s loved ones and we will continue to support them through this terrible time.

“We are asking for anyone with any informatio­n on what happened to Amber, or anyone who believes they saw her at any point of her movements between Friday and Sunday, to please come forward.”

Chief Inspector Briony Daye added: “I’d like to reassure the local community that this is believed to be an isolated incident and there is not any risk to other members of the public.”

As the glen area remained sealed off yesterday, a single floral tribute was left at the entrance. Friends

spoke of their shock and sadness at Amber’s death.

Michaela Kirkwood said: “She was an amazing lassie – honestly, it’s so upsetting.”

Courtney Clark said: “Amber had a heart of gold and would do her best to help anyone in need, never failed to put a smile on anyone’s face and walked about loud and proud with a big grin.

“My heart goes out to all of Amber’s family and close friends as I am devastated and in complete shock.”

Nicole Paterson added: “My heart is shattered for everyone – what a beautiful girl.” One local said: “This is so heartbreak­ing – we are all really devastated.

“I take my sons to that park and go walks in the area, so to think something has happened there is really shocking.

“We never would have suspected police would find anything like this here. Everyone is so upset over Amber’s death – she was just so young.”

Tributes also poured in on social media. One read: “Heartbroke­n – what a world we live in.”

Sophie Jones commented: “Heartbreak­ing – she was just a wee lassie.”
