Paul: Top six is in reach if we play Well

- DUNDEE v ST JOHNSTONE BY SCOTT BURNS

PAUL McGOWAN was delighted Dundee made their mark against Motherwell but believes beating bogey team St Johnstone would be a statement of their top-six intent.

The midfielder knows the weekend win over the Steelmen was one of their best displays this season, with the team clicking at both ends.

It is now on to Saints, an outfit they have lost to in their last seven head-to-heads going back to 2018.

But on their record against the Perth club, McGowan said: “You don’t look at it until it gets mentioned you haven’t beat them in however many games.

“It’s not something you look into. We are professionals so you give them all the respect they deserve – they won both cups last year.

“But they will be worried about us. They will be watching videos of us on Saturday when every one of us was at it and that’s what we have to produce again.

“You can see a difference in the boys now. The place is buzzing but it’s Dundee so we can’t take anything lightly. We aren’t taking anything for granted and neither is the manager.

“We have to prove we can do it over five or six games, that’s how you get success in this league.

“Sometimes it creeps in that we think we’re doing well and are going to walk out there, perform as we are and get results.

“Our ambitions are top six. We’ve started well but if we can string a few results together, then that would be good because the league is so tight.

“If we play like we did on Saturday, there is no doubt we can climb the table and get in the top six.”

Lee Ashcroft misses out and boss James McPake said: “Lee is going for a scan today so we’ll know more in the next 24 hours. It’s not looking good.”
