Bruce has the skill of Gers icons

- ALAN MARSHALL

LIVINGSTON boss Davie Martindale insists Bruce Anderson is a natural-born striker in the mould of Ally McCoist and Kris Boyd but wants him to learn from Lyndon Dykes.

Anderson grabbed his sixth goal of the campaign in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Rangers and Martindale is hoping there is plenty more to come from the 23-year-old.

Martindale believes the former Aberdeen player is part of a dying breed in the modern game, insisting he is a forward who takes far more pleasure in scoring rather than linking the play.

And the Livingston boss would love for Anderson to be just as prolific as the former Rangers pair.

Ahead of tonight’s trip to Pittodrie, he said: “I like that he’s hungry to score. A lot of forward players have come through this club over the years and I’ve not seen one with the same appetite that Bruce has to score goals.

“He’s got a striker’s instinct and there are not a lot of No.9s in the modern game that have got that natural instinct in their make-up. If you win 3-0 and he’s not scored he’s gutted.

“If we can get the ball into the box then you’ll have a striker sniffing around for goals.

“You look back to your McCoist days and even Boyd, fantastic penalty box strikers and Brucie is of a similar ilk. If he can get anywhere near their levels then he’ll be laughing.

But Martindale would still like Anderson to learn from all-action Scotland striker Dykes, who earned a move from Livi to QPR.

He said: “Lyndon is a great role model, his link up is brilliant. You try and make it more relevant to Bruce, he knows who Lyndon is. He can watch him playing for Scotland.”
