STAGGIES JAKE IT ONE MATCH AT A TIME NOW

-

JAKE VOKINS is confident Ross County are ready to climb the table – but insists the Staggies won’t sweat about results around the country.

A win over St Johnstone today would take County off the foot of the table for 24 hours at least, with second-bottom Livingston hosting Hearts tomorrow

A two-goal win in Perth would guarantee County move 11th no matter what happens at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

But Vokins said: “We take each game as it comes. We don’t want to concentrate on other results. We focus on our game plan and how we set about getting the three points. We want to keep building on good form.

“The team’s confidence in how we’re training and building up to games is important. We’re just looking to win more points and climb the table.

“December is always busy with festive games but we’ve got a big squad here and everyone will be needed. The manager trusts that when we’re picked we can take the opportunity and produce our best for the team.”

Wednesday night’s 0-0 draw at St Mirren was Vokins’ first 90 minutes for the Staggies since injury, with Harry Clarke’s suspension switching Connor Randall to rightback and opening the door for the 21-year-old to start on the left.

Vokins said: “It was very good to get a start and obviously the clean sheet and point were massive.

“Through me coming here and getting injured, then the process of me working hard to get back into the team, I’m very happy.

“The injury lay-off hit my morale and confidence a little bit because I’d moved up here and played a couple of cup games.

“I thought I played well and wanted to keep going. The 90 minutes this week was good confidence-wise and fitness-wise. I’ve been working really hard on the training ground.

“I knew I had 90 minutes in me and to help keep a clean sheet, as a defender first and foremost, was important to me.

“I want to keep building on that.”
