Ofgem gets blamed for energy crisis
HOUSEHOLDS face a £2.6billion bill for the collapse of energy suppliers because of a “catalogue of errors” by the industry watchdog, a report claims.
Citizens Advice said regulator Ofgem had failed to tackle “unfit” energy firms for nearly a decade.
Its study details multiple instances it claims Ofgem didn’t act on evidence of rule-breaking. A total of 26 suppliers have gone bust this year.
Citizens Advice CEO Dame Clare Moriarty said: “Ofgem missed multiple opportunities to regulate the market and tackle rule-breaking by suppliers.”
Ofgem said: “We understand the challenges households and businesses are facing in light of the unprecedented increase in global gas prices.”
