KEEP CHARM&

- BY ANNA BURNSIDE

MIRANDA has white hair, everyone has been at the tweakments and the chat is more hot flushes than hot dates. The original cast still meet for brunch but these days they need specs to read the menu.

Sex And The City is back, all grown up and rebooted into a more inclusive 21st version. Called And Just Like That, it’s on Sky Comedy and NOW TV from today.

There are 10 episodes of aspirational middle aged angst, outrage and one-liners, all set against the familiar backdrop of New York city.

It looks as great as ever – Carrie has a new line in bonkers hats, there is a reprise of the famous tutu from the early days and she opens her shoe closet saying: “hello lovers”.

But the show’s producers, HBO, have moved it on since the ill-fated films of the early 2000s. The company’s head of programming Casey Bloyes said: “They’re not trying to say that these characters are reliving their 30s.

“It is very much a story about women in their 50s, and they are dealing with things that people deal with in their 50s.”

Here’s what we know about the new series so far.

WITH the original stylist, Patricia Fields, busy on Emily in Paris, Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago, who worked with her on the second SATC film, stepped in. They have kept the original formula – designer finery, curveball vintage, occasional high street, all in unexpected combinations – and finessed it for an older cast. They have also thrilled SATC nerds by bringing back the odd bit from Carrie’s original wardrobe, much of it lovingly archived by Sarah Jessica Parker herself. There are also nods to previous outfits to delight the fashion trainspotters. Carrie wears more hats and headpieces, a lot of colour and pattern and, of course, delicious shoes. These are more varied than in previous seasons, with platforms and even wedges joining the classic heels.

Bags are more often cross-body styles, sometimes worn two at a time.

Charlotte keeps a strong silhouette – skirts are pencil or full, shirts usually white, heels narrow and high. Miranda wears more relaxed tailoring and muted colours.

SAMANTHA is replaced by four new characters who are addressing previous criticism that the show’s stars were all painfully thin, white and straight. Sara Ramirez, the Mexican-American star of Grey’s Anatomy, plays Che Diaz, a non-binary stand-up comic. Carrie is a regular guest on her salty podcast. Sarita Choudhury, who is British, is a self-made real estate broker with Samantha girl-boss energy. Karen Pittman, recently seen on Apple TV’s The Morning Show, is Dr Nya Wallace, a professor at Columbia Law School. Aged 35, she’s the youngest of the new blood. Nicole Ari Parker, who starred in Boogie Nights, plays Lisa Todd Wexley, a documentary maker and mum of three. The actress said: “Some of our storylines deal with race and deal with real experiences. It’s New York City.”

As the Sex And The City reboot hits our screens tonight, we look at who will be joining the glam New York trio and who won’t...
