JAMES KNEW HE HAD ADAM GOOD KEEPER

- BY NEIL ROBERTSON

JAMES McPAKE knew he’d secured a top-quality keeper after just one day watching Adam Legzdins train.

The 35-year-old Englishman was on the losing side for Dundee against Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday but was undone by a deflected Joe Aribo strike and a Ryan Sweeney own goal before Alfredo Morelos scored a third for the champions.

Legzdins pulled off a string of stunning saves with his one-man show of defiance keeping the score down in Govan.

That sort of five-star performance from the former Birmingham, Derby and Burnley man came as no surprise to Dark Blues boss McPake. That’s because he did his homework before signing the goalie last November following his Turf Moor exit.

McPake said: “Keiren Westwood and Ben Williams, two goalkeepers I had played with, had good opinions of him.

“I also spoke to Greg Stewart who had played with him at Birmingham.

“I knew Adam was out of contract. I had looked at his career and obviously I knew him when I was at Coventry.

“When we asked him to come up here, fair play to Adam, it wasn’t a trial, we just asked him to come and train.

“Within a day we knew we had a goalkeeper.”
