SOAP star Simon Gregson swore “never again” after he and Danny Miller took on the Santa’s Grotty Grotto trial.
Emmerdale actor Danny, 30, nominated himself for the latest challenge, while Coronation Street’s Simon, 47, was picked out of a hat in camp.
Explaining there would be four rounds, host Dec said: “Santa Cledwyn has been very busy with his naughty little elves, putting together a trial for you.”
The first round involved rummaging through sacks of rotten veg and fermented eggnog with their mouths for stars. Round two saw the actors fishing for stars while their heads were encased in boxes filled with rainbow crabs, whip scorpions and giant stick insects.
There were more creepy crawlies in round three. The pals were told to decorate Santa Cledwyn’s Christmas tree – but first they had to pull decorations out of snake-infested present boxes.
Finally, they faced mince pies filled with raw fish eyes. Danny and Simon were told they had to pop the eyes in their mouths, collect the juice in a sherry glass and then drink it.
The plucky pair managed – but admitted they came close to throwing up.
Simon told Ant and Dec: “Never again. Never again.” Danny added: “I feel a bit queasy.”
In all, they earned seven out of eight stars, earning partridge for camp dinner.
After the meal, Simon said: “I didn’t get much off of it apart from a sliver of skin off its claws… who am I and where am I?”
Surely better than the fish-eye pies...
