Bhoys kid Coffey stays on at Cork

-

CELTIC have allowed Barry Coffey to extend his loan deal at Cork City.

The midfielder joined the Irish club last summer, scoring five times in 12 appearances.

And the 20-year-old will stay with City – managed by former Celtic midfielder Colin Healy – until June.

Cork boss Healy said: “Barry came in for the second half of last season and made a big impact.

“We’re very pleased to have him back here again.

“He’s shown he has an eye for goal and we’re looking for more of the same from him again in 2022.

“It’s great to have him back on board and I’d like to thank Celtic for their assistance in getting this deal done.”

Coffey is relishing his return to the League of Ireland club and said: “I’m delighted to get it done and delighted it’s done before pre-season starts.”

CELTIC may be plundering the Japanese market to bring first team ready quality to Parkhead but that doesn’t mean they’ve stopped looking a lot closer to home. Just across the Irish Sea, in fact, where the form of Sligo Rovers’ teenage striker Johnny Kenny has caught the eye of the Hoops’ scouting network to such an extent Ange Postecoglou’s side might be about to snatch him from under the nose of new Easter Road boss Shaun Maloney. Kenny, 18, who has a £125,000 release clause, has already been given a guided tour of Hibs’ training complex near Tranent and watched them beat Dundee before Maloney’s arrival. But the lure of Celtic, even if the Ireland Under-19 were to start in the B team, might be too strong to resist. And Kenny could follow in the footsteps of countryman Liam Scales, who signed a four-year deal from Shamrock Rovers last summer and has already broken into the first team. That Scales has done so and that Celtic are continuing to scour the Irish market comes
