Teenager arrested over incident

A “DANGEROUS” dog has been seized by police after two young children were hurt during an alleged attack in a park.

A miniature Yorkshire Terrier was also killed during the occurence, which took place near Blackburnh­all Gardens, Blackburn, West Lothian, on Wednesday evening.

Police have confirmed that two youngsters, aged three and 10, suffered minor injuries while a 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident.

It is believed that the same dog was involved in a separate incident last July which resulted in a 72-year-old man having his thumb “bitten off ”.

The pensioner continues to suffer from the physical impact of his injuries which have left him unable to write and undergoing physiother­apy.

He suffered numerous bites on his face, body, arms and legs while he tried to defend his pet dog Domino from the attacking American bulldog on July 16.

A 40-year-old woman was reported to the Procurator Fiscal before the case was abandoned.

The mother of the injured children told the Daily Record that she believes the same animal is responsibl­e for both incidents. She was interviewe­d by police in the hours after, with officers attending the dog’s home last night.

A Police Scotland spokespers­on said: “Officers were called to a report of a dog attack in a park near Blackburnh­all Gardens, Bathgate, around 6.20pm on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

“Two children aged 10 and three suffered minor injuries and a mini Yorkshire Terrier died during the incident.

“A 16-year-old male was arrested in connection with the incident, and a dog has been seized under the Dangerous Dogs Act. Inquiries are continuing.”
