BEZ OUT OF HELL

Happy Mondays star will do Dancing on Ice Meatloaf act

- ASHLEIGH RAINBIRD

BY BEZ is set to go batty for Meat Loaf this weekend as Dancing on Ice pays tribute to the late rock legend.

In a spectacular routine, the Happy Mondays star will fly off the ice riding – you guessed it – a giant bat.

The self confessed “rubbish skater” will be dressed in leathers and a biker helmet for the performance taken from the Bat Out of Hell stage production.

It is part of the STV show’s Musical Week and comes after Meat Loaf, 74, died last month after contracting Covid.

After having taking a tumble last week, producers have quipped Bez will probably be safer in the air than on the ice.

One insider said: “There are strict safety measures in place but Bez actually seems to be at less risk when he’s floating up in the air on a giant bat. It’s a really fun rock’n’roll performance.”

Bez, 57, – real name Mark Berry – has always been a fan of the rocker’s music.

And he clambered on a Harley Davidson when he attended the Bat Out of Hell musical launch with girlfriend Firouzeh Razavi in Manchester in 2017.

He previously said: “When I was growing up, Bat Out of Hell always used to be on the pub jukebox so it brings back happy memories of my childhood.” Partnered on the ice with

Angela Egan, 34, Bez has been wearing a helmet throughout the series as well as knee and elbow pads to soften his regular falls.

“Because I have got every pad on, I’m able to bounce back up,” he said.

“But I’ve come to terms with it now, me and the ice are not naturally suited.”

Fellow contestant Brendan Cole will take to the ice with male skate pro Brendyn Hatfield, after his partner, Vanessa Bauer, temporarily pulled out following a positive Covid test. They will skate this Sunday to Beggin’ by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons from Jersey Boys. Brendan has previously told how he met Meat Loaf when the star performed on Strictly Come Dancing. Former Strictly pro Brendan recalled: “As he came off stage he said to me, ‘Hey, you’re the bad boy… right?’ I will always remember this amazing moment.” Dancing on Ice, Sunday, 6pm on STV.
