The theatre of screams

Mouat: Even back home will have heard that GB medal shout

- BY MARK WOODS

BRUCE MOUAT reckons his joy at being in with a shout of curling gold in Beijing would have been heard loud and clear back in Scotland.

Now Eve Muirhead wants to be just as big a noise as she eyes making it a magical double today.

Scots skip Mouat made up for his mixed double flop as he led his rink into the Olympic final with an 8-4 win over defending champs USA to secure Great Britain’s first medal of the Games.

Now it is just a case of whether it is gold or silver when Mouat and Co face the Swedes tomorrow.

But the skip, who screamed with delight after yesterday’s win, is just glad he could make up for a fourth-place finish with Jennifer Dodds in the mixed event – and thanked his team-mates for helping him get back on track for glory.

Mouat said: “The yell that I gave out was that release – I think people back in Scotland might have heard it!

“To be so close last week, it’s been a rollercoaster for me. I didn’t want to let that affect what we had potentially coming up this week.

“I’m so happy with how I bounced back from that moment and it was from the support of this lot.

“They all texted me as soon as that happened. I went around to see them and said we’ve got a great opportunity, we’re playing really well so we knew we were in a good spot.”

Fellow Scot Muirhead is also eyeing a golden finish after making the last four by the skin of her teeth.

Her rink hammered Russia 9-4 yesterday and then won a three-way draw shot tiebreaker by just 10.14 centimetres.

Now they face Olympic champions Sweden, whom they thrashed 8-2 last week in the round robin, for a place in Sunday’s final against either Japan or Switzerland.

Skip Muirhead said: “It would be nice to be the same as how we played Sweden in the round robin but we know it’s going to be tough. We need to play our own game and enjoy it.”
