£20.. THE PRICE OF FORGIVENESS

DJ who confessed to raping sleeping woman charges people for dodgy online movement

- BY MARK McGIVERN

A DJ WHO admitted to raping a sleeping woman is now charging people to join a “forgiveness movement”.

Craig Strachan made a startling confessional video, in which he admitted sexually assaulting a young woman in her sleep when he was 21.

The Record reported on Thursday how the Scot had “forgiven himself” for the attack, sparking fury from sexual violence campaigners.

But in a bizarre move, Strachan has started up a “forgiveness movement”, charging people £20 a head to turn up at a planned gathering.

Hosted on the meetup.com platform, the gathering says it is part of a “global thinking method” based on followers “forgiving themselves” for their past misdeeds.

One former friend said they would complain to the platform about the nature of the event.

The friend said: “This is next level – someone genuinely trying to cash in on being a rapist. This is crazy stuff. “At the very least, (he should) be interviewed by police over that rape he’s admitted to and tell the police who the victim is because she might want him convicted now he’s admitted it.

“To be saying that everything is all right as long as you apologise and forgive yourself is not his place.”

We told earlier this week how Strachan admitted his crime in a video interview on the “I’mPossible” motivational YouTube channel.

He said: “When I had my spiritual awakening last year, it was so so scary because I was reminded of something

Any attempt to profit from rape is abhorrent

that happened when I was 21, when I was really high and totally f ***** up, I raped a girl.

“I had sex with her when she was sleeping. It lasted about 10 seconds. She was in my bed and as soon as it happened I instantly knew, ‘S***, I should not have done that’.”

When asked if he had forgiven himself he adds: “I think right now I have, I really do.”

Strachan, who now uses the DJ name Craig Saint and lives in Barcelona, is also a life coach.

On the two-hour talk next Friday, Strachan explains on meetup.com that he will explore the power of forgiveness.

He wrote: “The truth will set us free. Forgiveness is the answer.”

But his attempt to raise cash from his notoriety has sparked anger among crime campaigners.

Labour MSP Monica Lennon slammed the venture. She said: “Any attempt to profit from rape is abhorrent. Rapists cannot be allowed to absolve themselves and bypass the criminal justice system.”

Last night, Strachan said proceeds from the Forgiveness Movement event would go to a charity which is building schools in Uganda.

He added: “I’ve been looking for an opportunity to raise money for this project for a while and since this story is getting a lot of exposure, I would appreciate any financial towards this project the helpful readers can offer.”

Strachan said he has voluntarily spoken to police in Edinburgh about the rape offence. A police spokesman said: “We are aware of the video and inquiries are being carried out.”
