Spurs order Conte to put a halt to his media rants

- MAN CITY v TOTTENHAM

ANTONIO CONTE has been handed a gagging order from Tottenham after accusing the board of “weakening” the squad in last month’s window.

Conte said he’d been banned from further interviews with Italian press in his own language after an explosive discussion with Sky Italia.

The Spurs boss expressed “surprise” that the club got rid of four “important” players in January and only brought in two, adding that he had only described the true nature of the job since he had been appointed in November.

At his press conference ahead of today’s game away to Manchester City, he was happy to toe the club line and imply it was the London media freely translating his words out of context.

Conte said: “I think I was very, very clear. I don’t understand why someone wants to try to create a problem with me. Not only me but also in the past.

“I read stories in the past about this club and it creates a problem with the coach and the chairman and the club.

“Sorry but I was a bit disturbed by this situation, especially because I had an interview with the Italian media. It means the club now doesn’t want me to speak to Italian media because the translation was not so clear with my thoughts.”

To add to his woes, his team had to make the trip to Manchester by bus.

Speaking during yesterday’s press conference, the 52-yearold said: “It is impossible to take the plane. We leave in half an hour,.

City boss Pep Guardiola, who is missing Jack Grealish again this evening, is wary of the threat posed by former signing target Harry Kane.

On England frontman Kane and his team-mates, Guardiola said: “They have a lot of quality up front. In midfield they have a physical team.”
