McCANN DO ATTITUDE DUE TO PEP TALKS

-

LEON McCANN says new Falkirk boss Martin Rennie has his charges swotting up on maestros Manchester City in a bid to demolish defences down the stretch.

Fifth-placed Bairns head to leaders Cove today three points outside the play-off places and chasing backto-back wins for the first time since August.

The club brought back on-fire Anton Dowds from a loan at Arbroath on top of recruting Jaze Kabia and Leigh Griffiths after struggling for firepower.

Dowds is their top goalscorer in the third tier despite spending the first half of the campaign in the league above.

Defender McCann, looking to move level on points with Queen’s Park in the final play-off place, said: “We couldn’t find the back of the net earlier in the season.

“The gaffer has come in and shown us so many different ways to attack goal and how to score.

“That has helped us because a lot of time teams were just sitting in and we didn’t know how to break them down.

“He’s come in and shown us different styles of play, ways to break teams down and get in the box.

“It’s both (training pitch and video analysis). He shows us a lot of videos of teams, Man City – and how easy it is when they do it and how easy it can be.

“We know we’re not Man City but if we do just take a wee snippet of what they do, we can turn ourselves into a great team.

“When he shows us videos he is not asking us to do mad things, it is just things like receive the ball on the half turn, switches of play quickly, get the ball across the goal quickly for strikers.

“Stuff we already know. But when you see players and how easy they make it, if you can do it that half a second quicker or with a bit more conviction you’ll be able to do it as well.

“It’s good insight into how to properly play football and how the elite do it.”

Mark Reynolds is getting back up to speed in the heart of Cove’s defence and is today in line to match his five appearances in the first half of the campaign at Dundee United.

His three league starts may have all been draws but he reckons momentum is still with Cove, five points in front of Airdrie.

Reynolds said: “There are enough guys in the team who’ve won leagues that know at this stage you need to grind and keep putting points on the board.

“It is frustrating having the three draws but it keeps that run going, keeps that bit of momentum.”
