Sam could be a travelling man courtesy of his Highland fling

SAM PEARSON is loving life in Scotland – but ambitions ensure his thoughts still stray to the Severn and Switzerland.

The wide man is on loan from Bristol City and excited to be tasked with boosting Caley Thistle’s crack at promotion and the title.

But he is also driven by other targets including cementing a first-team future at Ashton Gate and making sure that he is razor-sharp for Wales Under-21 action next month. The 20-year-old from Cardiff said: “I’m just looking to get as much game time as I can.

“I want to prove to people what I can do and hopefully go back to Bristol and do it there.

“But it is so exciting because we want to get promotion and possibly win the league.

“I’ve also got to make sure I’m 100 per cent ready for Wales

Under-21s in March. It’s an honour for me to put the Welsh shirt on. We’ve got a camp in March, with Switzerland away and Bulgaria at home.

“It’s an amazing feeling representing your country at such a high level, against such good opposition. It’s hard to explain the feeling and this loan will be huge in helping me prepare.”

Caley Thistle are seeking to break a run of seven games without a win and re-ignite their title chances while Ayr hope to follow up their 2-1 win at Kilmarnock 10 days ago.

Boss Lee Bullen said: “Spirits are high as you would expect after a good result and display against our local rivals. But we fully understand that things can come crashing down to earth very quickly in this league.

“As long as the boys go with a similar attitude and work ethic at Inverness then we will give them a game.”
