An Aberdeen statement read: “The club has been given permission by St Mirren to talk to Jim Goodwin regarding the vacant managerial position.

“We will make a formal announcement when the process to secure a new manager is complete.”

Meanwhile, the Buddies have also asked Aberdeen to speak to their captain Brown over their vacant managerial position as they immediately begin planning for Goodwn’s departure.

And the Dons will let the skipper speak to their Premiership rivals.
