Tam wants to turn the clock back against Gio
TAM COURTS is hoping for another breakthrough moment against Europa League shock troops Rangers tomorrow.
Dundee United toppled the champions on Tayside in August thanks to Jamie Robson’s goal.
That was the first game at Tannadice back in front of fans after a lockdown.
And boss Courts believes that win over Steven Gerrard’s side sparked a real connection between him and the United faithful.
The Light Blues return to Tannadice but this time it will be under the management of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, fresh from Thursday’s 4-2 win at Borussia Dortmund.
Courts said: “Thankfully for us we got the win and it was a good breakthrough for the team.
“It was a great experience for the team, coaching staff and everybody at the club, including myself. It gave us that connection we could go toe to toe with them.
“It was definitely a breakthrough performance for me on a personal level for sure. A few things aligned for us at that moment in time. It was one of the first games with fans back in.
“We started that game really well and got on the front foot.
“Rangers also had a huge European game against Malmo just before it, much like they did on Thursday night against Borussia.”
Courts admits United’s opening-day defeat to Aberdeen was a blessing in disguise that set them up to topple Rangers last time.
With just one defeat in their last seven games, the Tannadice boss added: “We had an adopted formation at that time that suited our adaptable players.
“The result against Aberdeen probably forced us to move more towards how we wanted the team to play.”
