PHIL IGNITES FOREST’SFIRE IN THEIR HUNT
PHILIP ZINCKERNAGEL’S solitary strike prevented Fulham from clinching the Championship title as well as boosting Nottingham Forest’s chances of going up automatically.
Marco Silva’s side, who clinched promotion on April 19, had to better the result of second-placed Bournemouth to make sure of finishing top.
Instead it was Forest who ended up celebrating a victory that moved them up to third and within three points of the Cherries, who host them at the Vitality Stadium in a week’s time.
Fulham claimed there had been a foul on Neco Williams in the build-up to the goal but Tim Ream and keeper Marek Rodak got in a terrible tangle in the box and allowed Zinckernagel to nip in and poke Sam Surridge’s pass over the line.
Kieffer Moore bagged a last-minute equaliser as Bournemouth fought from three goals behind to move a point closer to automatic promotion with a 3-3 draw at Swansea.
Two high-class Joel Piroe finishes and a Cyrus Christie’s drive had put the Swans in control.
But Moore scored either side of Dominic Solanke’s penalty to give the Cherries a potentially priceless point.
Dutchman Piroe netted twice in the opening 12 minutes, first driving a low volley beyond keeper Mark Travers. And then rattling a shot inside the far post.
Christie then smashed the ball past Travers at the near post. But Moore came off the bench to pull one back before Solanke scored from the spot.
And the comeback was complete when Solanke’s header was saved and Moore tapped in the rebound.
Oliver Casey scored his first goal for Blackpool as they beat Barnsley 2-0.
