Sex rap Ms had ‘hid in plain sight’
Prosecutor calls White a ‘master of deceit’
A TEACHER accused of engaging in sexual activity with two schoolboys was “hiding in plain sight” and used her position to abuse the youngsters, a jury was told yesterday.
Carol Ann White, 39, is alleged to have been intimate with the boys while employed at two different Lanarkshire primary schools.
The mum of two, of Uddingston in Lanarkshire, is on trial at Airdrie Sheriff Court and pled not guilty to two separate charges relating to incidents between August 2018 and May 2020.
In his closing speech, prosecutor Kevin Jarvis urged jurors to convict White.
He said: “She embarked on a course of conduct which amounted to a sexual abuse of trust towards these primary school children while in a position of trust as their teacher.
“Both children got on well with her and saw her as someone they could turn to. But they experienced a side to her that she kept hidden from other adults.
“She was a teacher hiding in plain sight. By day she was a respectable teacher, by night she was discussing sexual innuendos with a 12-year-old pupil before reverting back to a respectable adult again. She was the master of deceit.”
Defence advocate Graham Robertson urged jurors to clear White of any wrongdoing.
He said: “At no stage did she seek to gain any sort of sexual gratification from these two boys and she carried out no sort of sexual activity with them at all. Her position on that is clear.” The court had earlier heard White, who no longer works in education, repeatedly deny she had engaged in any sexual behaviour with either of the boys.
The trial continues.
