I turned down Elton but I’m still standing
Dance DJ has finally found fame, and a little fortune, after long slog
A SCOTS DJ has revealed he turned down Sir Elton John after the music legend asked him to remix one of his songs.
Ewan McVicar, 28, said he was amazed to be contacted about a collaboration with the singing great.
But he declined the offer to make a dance version of one of Sir Elton’s hit songs.
Ewan, from Ayr, recently gave up a warehouse job to concentrate on music full-time and his breakthrough single was voted Best Dance Track of 2021 in a music magazine.
He said: “Elton asked me to do a remix but it wasn’t right for me at the time.
“How crazy is that? I’m just a wee guy from Ayr and Elton has asked me to remix his tunes.
“It’s so mad. I just think of myself as a wee guy from Ayr that loves tunes.”

Ewan’s breakthrough single, Tell Me Something Good, reached No15 in the charts in November.
It also topped the list in BBC Radio 1’s Dance Awards and DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards.
Ewan says it has taken him eight years to find success and added that he is thankful to finally be making some money after struggling to get by.
He told the BBC: “Life has changed massively for me and I’ve got money for the first time in eight years.
“It’s not like I’m rich, I’ve just finally got some money for the first time in my life. I used to scrounge and could barely afford food sometimes when I was just doing music.
“That feeling of accomplishment after working so hard for so many years is the best in the world.”
Ewan started playing venues in his home town before landing his own club night and now has more than 2.2million monthly listeners on Spotify.
