LIBERTY STEEL RAIDED

THE Serious Fraud Office has raided the premises of tycoon Sanjeev Gupta’s Liberty Steel.

It comes almost a year after the SFO launched an investigation into suspected fraud and money laundering by parent firm GFG Alliance. The SFO confirmed its teams visited Liberty Steel’s offices yesterday to request documents and said executives “co-operated with the operation”.

Mr Gupta was once lauded as the “saviour of steel” for rescuing steel mills, but has faced claims of potential fraudulent trading after his main lender, Greensill Capital, collapsed last year.
