RANGERS are aiming to make it the 10th time a Scottish team has reached a European final when they face RB Leipzig in the Europa League semi-finals this evening.
Here are the nine occasions a Scottish club were successful in the last four of European competition and their aggregate scores over two legs...
1960/61, Fairs Cup – Rangers 3-1 Wolves
Rangers won 2-0 at Ibrox and drew 1-1 at Molineux to reach their first European final. Fiorentina would eventually defeat them in a two-legged encounter.
1966/ 67, Cup Winners’ Cup– Rangers 2-0 Slavia Sofia
Rangers beat the Bulgarian outfit home and away before agonisingly losing in the f inal to Bayern Munich after extra time in Nuremberg.
1966/67, European Cup– Celtic 3-1 Dukla Prague
The Hoops defeated the Czech dark horses comfortably in Glasgow and then gained a battling goalless draw in Prague. The Parkhead men would go on to seal their place in history by becoming the first British side to win the European Cup, in Lisbon against Inter Milan.
1969/70, EC – Celtic 3-1 Leeds United
Celtic defeated the English champions home and away in the highest attendance for a UEFA competition match at Hampden of 136,505. But they would surprisingly lose in the final in Milan to Feyenoord.
1971/72, ECWC – Rangers 3-1 Bayern Munich
After a hard-fought 1-1 draw in West Germany, Rangers took apart Franz Beckenbauer and co at Ibrox to make it through to the final in Barcelona where they won the trophy after defeating Dynamo Moscow.
1982/83, ECWC: Aberdeen 5-2 Waterschei
Alex Ferguson’s Dons ripped apart the Belgians, who later became Genk, with a 5-1 hammering at Pittodrie. Real Madrid proved to be no match either for them in the final in Gothenburg.
1986/87, UEGA Cup –Dundee Utd 2-0 Borussia M’gladbach
United drew the first leg 0-0 at Tannadice and seemed underdogs to go through, but they stunned the Germans 2-0 in the second leg. They would go down in the final to IFK Gothenburg over two legs.
2002/03, UC – Celtic 2-1 Boavista
Celtic made it through to Seville after Henrik Larsson secured a 1-0 win in Portugal following a 1-1 draw in Glasgow. They would eventually lose in extra time to a Porto side bossed by Jose Mourinho.
2007/08, UC – Rangers 0-0 Fiorentina (Rangers won 4-2 on penalties)
Two goalless draws in both legs sent the tie into a penalty shoot-out with Nacho Novo the hero for Rangers. The Light Blues would go on to lose the final in Manchester to Zenit St Petersburg.
