Kill off Gers so I can go sightseeing in Scotland

Every little helps Tedesco

- BY ANDY NEWPORT

LEIPZIG boss Domenico Tedesco expects to be wowed by Scotland’s stunning scenery.

But he insists there’s nothing more Rangers can do to impress him after witnessing the shock and awe Gio van Bronckhorst’s troops have caused on their rampage through Europe.

The former Schalke and Spartak Moscow manager is assisted by former Celtic defender Andreas Hinkel, who has filled in Tedesco all about the frenzy of life in the Old Firm goldfish bowl and the tranquility to be found in the hills beyond Glasgow.

Those travel reviews have left Tedesco, 36, contemplating squeezing in some sightseeing when he arrives for next week’s second leg.

The chances of that, though, are likely to decided by whether or not his side can jam a substantial first-leg lead in to their suitcases after tonight’s clash at their impressive 47,000-seater Red Bull Arena.

But it’s the sight of Rangers knocking out fellow Bundesliga big guns Borussia Dortmund as well as decent foreign opposition such as Red Star Belgrade and Sporting Braga that has the Leipzig boss fearing a tourist trap at Ibrox.

“My long-time assistant coach Andreas Hinkel has been raving about Scotland and football in the country for years,” said Tedesco who never played as a pro.

“Visiting an Old Firm match between Rangers and Celtic is also a dream of mine that I would like to realise one day because the people in the country are crazy about football in a really positive sense.

“Maybe we’ll have some time at the presentation of our game to have a look at the city. It’s supposed to be very nice there.

“I would also like to visit the Highlands of Scotland, as they are said to be very impressive.”

Tedesco’s heard all about the majesty of Scotland’s mountain ranges – and his interest has been piqued by Rangers’ European performances too.

“I wasn’t shocked,” he said after being quizzed about February’s sensational Westfalenstadion display.

“I was of course surprised they won 4-2 but at one point I think it was 0-3 so they played really strong, I was very surprised at that game.

“But now after seeing them a few times, seeing them against Braga, against Borussia Dortmund, against Red Star and also against Celtic, who they beat 2-1 in the Cup, there is no surprise any more because they have a good squad, a good coach.

“They are very well organised and the whole club is doing a big job since they came up from the second league, with Ross Wilson for example coming up with clever transfers, so there is no surprise for us.”
