700,000 GIVEN CENSUS AMNESTY
PEOPLE in Scotland will be given a short extension to complete the Census after an embarrassingly low response rate.
SNP Cabinet Secretary Angus Robertson said the deadline had been pushed back to the end of May after more than a quarter of households failed to fill it in. Tory MSP Donald Cameron described handling of the Census as “disastrous”.
The National Records of Scotland (NRS) revealed this week that 700,000 of the 2.7million households had yet to respond.
Robertson said: “Failure to meet this responsibility can result in prosecution.”
