Mothers to march against atrocities
A MARCH of Mothers will be held in cities across Scotland tomorrow to demand Russia stop killing Ukraine’s children.
Women will carry dolls swaddled in sheets stained with fake blood to highlight the 208 children killed and 386 injured in Ukraine.
Last Saturday, a threemonth-old baby girl was killed with her mother when a Russian missile hit a residential tower block in Odesa.
Organisers are asking people to join marches in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, following similar demonstrations in Europe and the US. Organiser Valeriia
Semchuk, 39, joined family in Aberdeen after fleeing Kyiv with her sons Micha, 16 and Martin, 13.
She said: “Every day Ukraine’s children are dying. We are asking the world to please not forget them. We are asking the mothers and the people of Scotland to join us and demand an end to the murder of our children. These children can’t speak for themselves and so we must shout for them. We think of them every day.”
Micha and Martin are among 4.5million Ukrainian children who have been displaced.
TV costume designer Valeriia’s partner Vagym stayed to help the war effort.
She said: “I had the job of my dreams, we lived a beautiful life with our family in a beautiful home and city and we left it all behind. It is terrible but at least we are alive.”
The march will gather at noon in Aberdeen’s Castlegate, Glasgow’s George Square and Edinburgh’s Scott Monument.
