Handy recovery for bionic Jim
A PROSTHETIST who lost his arm when he was run over by a truck has returned to work after being fitted with a revolutionary bionic limb.
Dr Jim AshworthBeaumont, from Edinburgh, had his arm amputated while he was trapped under a 40-ton truck that hit his bike in July 2020.
The former Royal Marine was training for a triathlon when he was almost killed in the collision in London.
After recovering from his injuries, the 55-year-old vowed to return to his career designing and fitting artificial limbs for NHS patients. And, after working with experts from three of Britain’s top prosthetic manufacturers, he has now been fitted with a bespoke electronic arm.
Jim, who lives in the UK capital’s Greenwich, said: “This arm represents the difference between me being independent and able to work, and not working and having restricted independence.”
