DRYSDALE’S HIGH GIRONA
DAVID DRYSDALE drew on good memories to head the Scottish charge in the Catalunya Championship at the famed PGA Resort facility at Girona in Spain.
Drysdale had four birdies in a three-under-par 69 to trail three shots behind the leading trio of South Africans Darren Fichardt and Oliver Bekker, along with Dane Jeff Winther.
Legendary Spaniard Antonio Garrido, 74, hit the opening tee shot to celebrate 50 years since he won the 1972 Spanish Open and also the 50th anniversary of the DP
World Tour. Drysdale said: “It’s a course I’ve always liked. I love it. I was here first at the Q School in 2008 when I regained my Tour card, so I always had fond memories each time came back.”
Next best Scot was Grant Forrest, one shot back (70).
