It’s 2026 vision for Jurgen

- BY CHRIS McKENNA

JURGEN KLOPP admits he couldn’t walk away in 2024 because he loves Liverpool too much.

The 54-year-old penned a two-year extension taking his Anfield contract to 2026.

Klopp admitted once he got the all-clear from his assistant manager Pep Lijnders, who also signed an extension along with fellow coach Peter Krawietz, then it was full steam ahead on agreeing a new deal.

Mike Gordon – president of Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group – and Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, tied up the details yesterday morning after they both watched the Reds beat Villarreal in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Klopp joined Liverpool in 2015 and extended his deal in 2019 after leading the club to the Champions League trophy. He then delivered their first league title in 30 years in 2020.

This season the Reds are going for all four major honours having already won the Carabao Cup.

Klopp said: “There is just so much to love about this place. When the owners brought the possibility to renew to me, I asked myself the question I’ve mused over publicly.

“Do I have the energy and vibe to give of myself again what this amazing place requires from the person in the manager’s office?

“I didn’t need too long to answer in truth. The answer was simple… I’m in love with here and I feel fine!”

Gordon added: “What our latest agreement gives us is an opportunity to benefit from continuity, particularly in terms of [player contract] renewals, whilst retaining and, where possible, enhancing our keen focus on refreshing and reinvigorating the team at all times.”
